in 1996, she's been making an awesome impact on the
game of Tennis. Even at her young age, she can already
be considered one of the greatest female tennis players
ever. On March 31st, 1997, she became the youngest female
player to ever be ranked #1.
She is one of only 17 players since 1970 to win 5 or
more tournaments in one year. She also became the youngest
Grandslam singles champion at 16 years and 3 months
this century by winning the 1997 Australian Open, defeating
Mary Pierce 6-2, 6-2; reached career ranking of no.
2; also won the doubles w/ Zvereva. She won 37 straight
matches to start the 1997 season, the second- best start
in the open era; won 75 matches total in 1997, most
on the tour for the year. As of April 2000, she's already
won 6 Grand Slam Titles. It's easy to see why she's
