Gina Gershon was born on June 10th, 1962 at Cedar-Sinai
Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. She is the
youngest of five children. Ginas ethnic background
includes French, Dutch and Russian, and jokes "I
could be the Meryl Streep of the Mediterranean world."
She grew up in Woodland Hills in the San Fernando Valley
and labels herself as a Valley girl, and a surfer chick.
Her first endeavor into acting was in a grade eight
play. After high school she wanted to change her "Oh,
so California" image, so she moved to New York
and attended New York University, where she attained
her Bachelor of Arts degree.
Gershon has studied with such prestigious teachers
as Harold Guskin, Sandra Seacat, and at Circle in the
Square. She has a number of theater performances under
her belt, including "Camille", John Robin
Baitzs "The Substance of Fire", and
William Mastrosimones "Nanawatai." She
is also a founding member of the New York based theater
group Naked Angels.
Her big break into film came when she was cast in "Pretty
in Pink" (1986) and followed with roles in "Red
Heat" (1988), "Cocktail" (1988), and
"Out for Justice" (1991). In 1992, she was
cast in "Sinatra" and won rave reviews for
her outstanding portrayal of Nancy Sinatra. Since then
Ginas career has soared and has been in many acclaimed
films, although she has yet to carry a film on her own.
Her most recent role is in the David E. Kelly (Ally
McBeal, The Practice,) production of "Snoops."
Gina tops the cast of the ABC series as Glenn Q. Hall,
head of a detective agency, while Denny Nucci and Paula
Jai Parker team up as her partners. "Snoops"
is an energetic comedy/drama about a group of private
detectives based in Santa Monica. The dialogue is snappy
and sassy and Gina says of her character "I like
Glenn - shes a bit of a renegade, a bit of outlaw."
She currently resides on the east coast with her boyfriend,
Sean, who designs and owns restaurants and cafes in
Los Angeles.
