Thirty years ago an actress stole the hearts of fans
across the United States. Her stardom wasn't limited
by borders though, for she is well known in many countries.
This actress was Farrah Fawcett.
Born on February 2, 1947 to James and Pauline Fawcett
in Corpus Christi, Texas, Mary Farrah Leni Fawcett wouldn't
realize her stardom potential until much later. This
oil man's daughter, did not look for stardom, it found
her. While studying Art at the University of Texas,
she was voted the most beautiful sophomore. The glossy
of her then somehow found its way into the hands of
Publicist David Mirisch. He wrote to Farrah and at his
urging, she left University to move to Los Angeles and
begin a career as an actress. Since then there has been
no turning back.
Farrah's most famous role was in the first season of
the TV show Charlie's Angels. For some reason her looks,
athleticism, sex appeal and girl next door charm won
their way into the hearts of Fans and have made her
one of the most well known actresses around. Initially,
her Hollywood career with commercials and appearances
in such TV show's as The Dating Game (1969), The Partridge
Family (1970), and many others. It wasn't until Charlie's
Angels (1976-1977) that her career took off. She then
left the series to pursue a career in movies. Unfortunately,
this decision lead her to a year of bad times, as the
producers of the series sued her and made sure she didn't
work for a year. This didn't hold her back though.
The hardest thing for Farrah turned out to be getting
around the image of blondes. For a time no one realized
that she was more than good looks, sex appeal and charm.
It wasn't until she played the lead in the Broadway
play "Extremities" that she showed the world
she could act. From this lead to a series of movies
where she became known as the advocate for abused women.
Such movies as "The Burning Bed (1984)", "Nazi
Hunter: "The Beate Klarsfeld Story (1986), and
"Extremities (1986)". As it turns out, Farrah
would eventually fight back from an abusive relationship
herself and further endear herself to women's causes.
Farrah has been married once to actor Lee Majors. After
their divorce, she had a long-term relationship with
Ryan O'Neal that lasted 17 years. While with O'Neal
she gave birth to her son Redmond. Not long after the
birth of their son, the relationship started failing
and since then Farrah had only one other relationship.
She dated director James Orr whom is reported to have
abused her.
Farrah has been immortalized in film, movies, TV and
through promotional materials. She not only has her
own line of shampoo, for years women wanted to have
hair just like hers. Farrah even at 53 continues to
enjoy a successful career with a number of upcoming
movies.
